Motorized Shangri-La Shades – Miami Area Installation

This project covered a luxury residence in Sunny Isles Beach, Miami-Dade County, with custom motorized Shangri-La shades. The openings include a floor-to-ceiling bedroom window and a wide glass span in the living area with a sliding door onto the balcony.

The owner wanted daytime glare and privacy control in a high-rise setting without giving up the view, which is the situation Shangri-La shades are designed for.

Shangri-La shades were chosen because the vanes tilt between an open, view-through position and a closed privacy position while the shade stays down, and the whole shade rolls fully up into the head rail when the view should be completely clear.

Shangri-La shades combine two layers of sheer fabric with soft horizontal fabric vanes suspended between them. Tilting the vanes open lets diffused daylight and the view through; tilting them closed gives privacy and a soft, uniform face on the window without raising or lowering the shade.

When fully raised the whole shade rolls up into the head rail, so a large window can be left completely clear. That combination of tilt control and a clean open position is why they are often chosen for high-rise and waterfront rooms where the view matters.

The shades are motorized and operated by remote, so the tall openings can be adjusted from anywhere in the room without reaching the head rail.

A motorized shade is raised and lowered by a tubular motor inside the roller tube instead of a chain or cord. Because there is nothing to reach for, motorization is the practical answer on openings that sit above head height or behind furniture.

The light, neutral sheer fabric matches the pale walls and stone floor, so the shades read as a soft layer of light rather than a visual block. The close-up photographs show the sheer front and back layers with the soft fabric vanes between them.

Each opening was measured on site and the shades were made to the specific width and height, including the full-height bedroom window and the wide living-area span.

With the vanes open the rooms keep their bright, open South Florida view; closed, the windows are private with a clean, uniform face. Raised, the shades disappear into the head rail and the glass is fully exposed.
