Motorized Zebra Shades in Miami Home

This Miami home was being remodeled, and we replaced the older window coverings with new custom motorized zebra shades.

The installation covered multiple windows, including large rectangular windows with arched transoms above. A light neutral fabric with white cassettes keeps a consistent, updated look across the rooms shown.

Zebra shades pair sheer and solid fabric bands on a single roller, so each window moves between filtered daylight and more privacy with one simple adjustment.

Motorized operation makes everyday use easier and more convenient, which fits a remodeled home where the window treatments are used daily across several rooms.

Zebra shades (also called dual-layer or banded shades) are built from a single fabric with alternating sheer and solid horizontal bands. Rolling the fabric a few centimetres shifts the bands in or out of alignment, so the same shade moves from an open view-through position to a closed privacy position without being raised or lowered.

That makes them a practical choice where daylight changes through the day: the sheer bands soften glare while keeping the window readable, and the solid bands close the opening when privacy matters more than the view.

The zebra shades in this project are motorized, so windows can be raised, lowered and adjusted without handling each shade by hand.

A motorized shade is raised and lowered by a tubular motor inside the roller tube instead of a chain or cord. Because there is nothing to reach for, motorization is the practical answer on openings that sit above head height or behind furniture.

The light neutral fabric and white cassette headrails coordinate with the light, refreshed interiors visible in the photographs.

The photographs show the completed installation: a wide view of the living area with multiple motorized zebra shades, large windows with arched transoms, and close-ups of the fabric in filtered-light and partially raised positions.

Replacing the older window coverings with custom motorized zebra shades gave the remodeled rooms a cleaner, more modern appearance with easier everyday light control.
