Custom Zebra and Roller Shades Fort Lauderdale
This Fort Lauderdale residential project included the installation of 8 custom window shades, combining zebra shades and roller shades across multiple rooms. The installation included a large living-area opening, bathroom windows, and additional room windows, with both installation-process and before-and-after photos documented.

Project overview
This real completed residential installation in Fort Lauderdale covers 8 custom window shades across multiple rooms of one house, combining two shade styles: zebra shades and roller shades.
The largest treatment is a wide zebra shade on the main living-area opening, fitted below an arched transom window. Roller shades were installed on the bathroom windows, and additional zebra shades were fitted on bedroom and kitchen windows.
The challenge at this property
The main living-area opening is a wide glass span sitting directly below an arched transom window, so the zebra shade had to be made to the full width of the opening while the arched glass above stays uncovered.
Bathroom windows sit inside tiled surrounds, so each roller shade had to be fitted neatly within its own opening without disturbing the tile.

Why zebra blinds for this installation
Zebra shades pair sheer and solid fabric bands on a single roller, so the large living-area opening and the bedroom and kitchen windows can move between soft filtered daylight and more privacy with one simple adjustment.
Roller shades give the bathroom windows a clean, simple finish with a single plain fabric panel that suits the tiled space.
Using two shade styles in one project let each room get the treatment that fits it while keeping a coordinated look across the home.
Zebra shades (also called dual-layer or banded shades) are built from a single fabric with alternating sheer and solid horizontal bands. Rolling the fabric a few centimetres shifts the bands in or out of alignment, so the same shade moves from an open view-through position to a closed privacy position without being raised or lowered.
That makes them a practical choice where daylight changes through the day: the sheer bands soften glare while keeping the window readable, and the solid bands close the opening when privacy matters more than the view.
Roller shades use one flat panel of fabric on a tube, so the stack at the top stays compact and nothing projects into the walkway when the shade is raised. That clean profile is why they suit sliding glass doors and other openings people walk through every day.
Fabric opacity does the work: solar fabrics cut glare while keeping some view out, light-filtering fabrics diffuse daylight, and blackout fabrics block it. Operation is simple in either a manual or a motorized configuration.
Fabric, colour and finish
The zebra shades use a light neutral fabric with alternating sheer and solid bands, consistent across the living area, bedroom and kitchen.
The bathroom roller shades use a plain light fabric with a matching cassette valance.
